It’s now possible to set up a small craft distillery in downtown Bethesda or Silver Spring.
On Tuesday, Montgomery County announced a change in the zoning code that will allow craft distilleries that produce less than 50,000 gallons of liquor annually to be located in certain commercial and residential mixed-use zones.
County Council member Hans Riemer said Tuesday the tweak in the code will hopefully enable small liquor manufacturers to set up shop in the county. He said officials pursued the change after a distiller in the startup phase expressed interest in locating in the county.
